Fantastic Surprise!

i read back in january that Ben Folds was opening for John Mayer here in San Jose in June
those guys are 2 of my favs (and Dave's too)
they would be performing together only 20 minutes from my house
i pined and semi-moped for a week because we really couldn't afford to go- especially with no job in sight
oh well- i would get the chance to see them again :(.........................................

last month Dave made a point to write this on the calendar---->
we have to go to this, Dave said
don't make any plans
i've already arranged for the kids to go to my parents
i figured it was obligations to make an appearance for the SJ Frogs soccer team (he's the team doctor)

that day came- yesterday
Dave watched Ben Folds concert clips on u-tube in the morning and i thought he was being mean
rubbing it in an old wound that the concert was that night
we had a lazy day and took a nap when Coop did
woke up and took the kids to the grandparents so we could go to the BBQ

Dave hands me mapquest directions in the car and asks me to help us get there
the address is somewhere in downtown San Jose
i ask why the BBQ wasn't at the stadium where they practice (also in San Jose)
the owner probably rented a hall or something, Dave says
we turn off highway 87
almost to our destination and i see the HP Pavillion staring at me
OH MY GOSH!!! this is the freakin' concert venue and it hits me that i've been duped
surprised
Dave plops an envelope in my lap with 2 tickets to the JOHN MAYER CONCERT inside

i screamed a little
then about attacked Dave as he was trying to park

he bought the tickets that week back in january
used his left over gift $ from graduation
six months he kept this to himself
i know he was just as excited as i was

we had a fabulous night
Ben Folds was awesome
such a talented musician and fun sense of humor
John Mayer put on a rockin' show
a little from all his albums and even some John Mayer Trio acoustic stuff
he had quite a band
2 guitars (besides himself) a bass player, drummer, keyboard player, sax and trumpet players
i thought of you, Ken, when the sax player ripped a few solos
it was amazing!
i'm only minutely ticked that Dave didn't realize i could have brought my camera
i got one sad pic on my camera phone but some great pics in my mind
we had rockin' seats by the way
first section right above the floor
so close
just above eye level with Mr. Mayer himself
the concert went by so fast

what an unimaginable surprise
i never saw it coming
THANK YOU SO MUCH BABE!
I LOVE YOU!
