I can't believe it's been 3 weeks since my last depressing post. Summer has officially started since June 14 when Jess got out of school. The last day of school our crossing guard had tied suckers to the tree for all the kids to pick one. They got a kick out of that and we stopped in the shade on the way home to enjoy them. Photo taken by the sidewalk and self timer. Love the colored tongues.
This girl surprises me sometimes. She walked out of her classroom the last day of school with her hands covering that badge on her shirt. Her caring heart award from her teacher was apparently a little embarrassing to her. I reassured her that having a caring heart made her an excellent friend and made Jesus happy and she perked up.
Since the boys got crazy mohawk haircuts, Daddy suggested Jessie wear lots of braids the last day of school. She jumped at the chance. We braided her hair over 2 nights and left it in until Sunday morning. I don't know which she was more excited for. Wearing lots of braids for a few days or taking them out to have "bumpy hair."
The last day of school J caused quite a stir on the playground with her crazy hair. She said there were a bunch of girls at recess that "secreted to each other" that they should never wear their hair like that. They told their teachers about J's braids to get her in trouble. Some of the kids in J's class were part of the drama, so Ms. B stood up towards the end of the day to announce to the class that students could wear their hair however they want. Then J heard at the valet after the last bell rang that other teachers told their classes the same thing. Nothing like a little 1st grade drama on the last day of school! J handled it like a champ. She didn't seem too phased by the whole thing and Mom and Dad made sure she knew that it didn't matter what the other kids thought about her hair as long as she liked it.
Father's Day the kids decorated cupcakes in Primary and made brownie/cookie/cupcake packages for the Dad's. Our Primary Presidency (since I am the President ;) ) decided that next year we are doing treats on Mother's Day so we can have some too! I love this picture of our chillies with their Daddy. We went to Gram's house for Father's Day dinner on Sunday night to see both our Dads and the fam. It's nice to have both set of parents so close. Dave and Jessie met us at Grams because they went to our good friend Tom's graduation at Cal State Hayward. Tom has been in school since Dave started school 4 years ago when they both worked at Reed's Sport Shop together. Now it's Dr. Dave and Tom's got his MBA. Yeah Tom!!
